Free MOT Check
MOT Check
Check MOT status, expiry date, full MOT history, mileage readings and advisories using official DVSA data.
What an MOT check includes
MOT status
Whether a valid MOT is currently recorded.
MOT expiry
The date the current certificate runs out.
MOT history
Every recorded test with its result.
Mileage readings
Odometer readings captured at each test.
Advisories
Items noted by the tester as needing attention.
Failure items
The defects that caused any failed test.
Understanding your MOT result
A pass means the vehicle met the minimum legal standards on the day of the test. A fail lists the defects found. Some vehicles, such as those under three years old, may have no MOT history at all — that is normal and is shown as “Not available” rather than a pass.
RoadLux never converts missing data into a clear result. If the DVSA holds no record for a field, we say so.
Frequently asked questions
What is an MOT check?
An MOT check shows whether a vehicle currently holds a valid MOT certificate, when it expires, and how it performed at each previous test recorded by the DVSA.
Is the MOT check free?
Yes. MOT status, expiry, full test history, recorded mileage, advisories and failure items come from official DVSA data and are free on RoadLux.
What do advisories mean?
Advisories are items the tester noted as approaching a problem. They are not failures, but they often indicate upcoming repair costs.
Why can mileage matter more than the MOT result?
Recorded mileage at each test builds a timeline. Readings that fall or jump unexpectedly can indicate a clocked vehicle and should be investigated.
Does an MOT prove a car is roadworthy today?
No. An MOT records the condition at the time of the test only, and is not a mechanical inspection or a guarantee of current condition.
